October 1st, an exciting time when many new PhD students start (including two of my own students this year). However, with COVID still causing problems, many people are stuck with only part-time lab access. “Self-directed learning” has taken on a much bigger role.
So, what should you do first? Well, you could try reading my guidebook for new research students. “Life in the Lab”
Indeed, the most frequent feedback I get from readers is “I wish I had this book earlier in my project.”
The book is filled with useful information for every stage of your research career including chapters on experimental design, data analysis, figure preparation and lots of material on writing up your work.
Enjoy!
