Life in the Lab – Preprint release

A little while ago I announced a book would be coming soon. Well, sometimes soon takes longer that you would like, so I have decided to release a pre-print version. Check it out here: https://leanpub.com/lifeinthelab

Pre-print?

The version released now contains chapters 1 to 4. The remaining 6 chapters are all written but aren’t quite ready to share yet, they need a few more tweaks. I’m going to update the edition you can download once each chapter is ready (chapter 5 coming in the next couple of weeks). Basically it’s like a serialised novel, except here the content is everything a new researcher needs to know to get going and be successful. There aren’t that many cliffhangers!

The planned contents list – Chapters 1-4 out now

Why should you download version 0.4?

Well two reasons really:

  1. It’s cheaper. Indeed, the first 30 people can pick it up for free by following this link (http://leanpub.com/lifeinthelab/c/RhD74tirCFq9 ). If you don’t manage to get a free one, it’s still only $5. For that price, you don’t just get the current incomplete version, but you are also able to download every future update as soon as they are released [tip, sign up for updates on the leanpub website so you don’t miss a chapter]. Be aware that as more of the book is released, the price will go up. Now’s the time to get the best deal.
  2. You can help shape the direction the book takes. Part of the plan of sharing the book now, while it is not fully complete, is to get input from readers. I want to know what works and what doesn’t, and I want to make changes so that the final version is as good, as useful as it possibly can be. This is much better than an review on amazon, this time you know the author will respond to your comments. I’ll even acknowledge contributors in the forward.

Your pets will love it too!

How much will it cost me?

It’s up to you.

When you go to the site, you have the two sliders that you can adjust to whatever you think is appropriate. Right now, the cheapest option is $5 (or free with the code if you are quick.

When you compare that with the competition, it’s much cheaper! Definitely worth a punt.
